Two donation programs to help you grow your business and your community!
The Make More Happen Awards recognizes agencies for their demonstration of extraordinary community service.
Each award comes with:
- A $10,000 donation to your favorite nonprofit
- Promotional public relations services
- Feature story about your agency and the nonprofit
The applications will be available on the Agents’ Portal Nov. 18, 2019 – Feb. 16, 2020.

Why promote my charity work?
One reason clients enjoy working with independent agents is because you are community-oriented. Your community may not know how much you care unless you show them in some way. Our programs give you a new opportunity to talk about your volunteerism.
How do I start getting more involved in my community? How do I find nonprofits?
The Guide to Community Engagement includes information on choosing an organization to support, taking quality photos of your work and how to share your story. Once you are ready to begin your work, the Community Engagement Workbook provides step-by-step guidance for planning a volunteer project, engaging your team, communicating with your volunteers and ensuring each event detail is covered.
What donation programs does Liberty and Safeco provide?
There are two giving programs: Make More HappenTM Awards and Change Agents.
Make More Happen Awards is the larger giving program, donating up to $10,000 to the nonprofit that you love working with. Every year, we recognize 34 applicants for extraordinary community service with a qualifying 501(c)3 organization. We also write a story about each selected applicant’s work.
Change Agents is a program that takes place more frequently throughout the calendar year and places emphasis on helping agents promote their community service through social media. More details will be available in early 2020.
What nonprofits qualify for these programs?
To qualify, an organization must:
- Be a nonprofit organization that has received official recognition from the Internal Revenue Service of its taxexempt status under Sections 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Qualify as a “public charity” for purposes of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Refer to program guidelines in each program for a list of ineligible nonprofits.
What is Section 501(c)3?
501(c)3 is a section of the Federal Tax Code establishing criteria for tax-exempt status for charitable organizations. Organizations other than government agencies, public schools and universities must have this status to receive tax-deductible gifts. Organizations can apply to the Internal Revenue Service for official recognition of their tax-exempt status under Section 510(c)3.
Are there restrictions on how the nonprofits can use the money?
Donations can go towards general operating support or program support. We do not support capital funding, capital campaigns or sponsorships for events.
Can only agents apply?
Anyone working for an agency appointed with Liberty Mutual Small Commercial or Safeco Insurance is welcome to apply.
How many applications can I submit each year?
Each agency may submit 2 applications to Make More Happen, per round, and one photo for Change Agents each cause theme. Please keep in mind that individual agencies and nonprofit organizations will be awarded no more than once per year.
Can agencies apply for both programs at the same time?
Yes. However, an agency will not win both during the same year.
Can multiple agents from the same agency nominate different organizations? Can I submit two applications for different nonprofits I work with?
Yes, but only one nominated nonprofit per agency can be selected to win.
If my application did not get selected this round, can I apply again? Does it hinder my chances to get selected in the following round?
Yes, please apply again! It does not hinder your chances. You should also feel free to contact us if you would like feedback as to where you could strengthen your previous application.
For any nonprofit receiving funding through either program, is follow-up required?
It’s not required, but we do love seeing updates! Our donation is not contractual, and nonprofits are not required to give us information about how the money was used. It is more the agent’s responsibility to follow up, if they wish.
Do I need the nonprofit’s Federal Tax ID number?
Yes. Without the correct ID number, we will be unable to consider your application for either program.
