Get inspired by stories and advice from independent agents

If you’re looking for inspiration this season — and aren’t we all? — your fellow independent agents have you covered. To close 2022 on a grateful note, we’ve gathered stories and advice from agents across the country to create a celebration called “12 Days of Agent Stories.”

These stories are based on a survey we conducted in which agents were asked to share business tips, personal advice and other pearls of wisdom. And we’re sharing some of their responses in 12 installments that will run December 5-20. To read them, visit the Liberty Mutual LinkedIn or Facebook pages.

After you read each story, we want to hear from you, too! So visit the pages daily and share your thoughts and experiences to keep the inspiration going.

Multiple states: New renewal verification process

When inaccurate data is used to rate policies and make underwriting decisions, premiums become misaligned with risk profiles, which stifles growth and drives premium increases at renewal. That’s why it’s important to collect accurate data at quote time. Starting Dec. 12, we’ll be conducting policy renewal reviews of Liberty Mutual small commercial policies to ensure the accuracy of passthrough classifications. In the next few weeks, you’ll hear more information regarding verification of discount eligibility or pre-fill overrides.

First, we’ll email you if something is changing on the policy. Then, we’ll process a conditional renewal reflecting changes to the renewal policy. Lastly, we will send a conditional renewal notice to notify the customer of the expected changes. Review the Agent’s Playbook to get familiar with eligibility guidelines and how to avoid common errors in assigning class codes or take our new on-demand risk classification training. Remember to use SmartNav to pre-qualify all new business, and further ensure accuracy by providing a detailed Description of Operations in your quote. With your help, we can stabilize rates to provide a better experience for your clients and grow your agency’s book. If you have questions, contact your underwriter or territory manager.

Impacted States:  AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL,GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV, WY, ND

Quoting a package product? Use our handy new tool

Finding the right product fit for your clients should be easy. That’s why we created the new Package/Product Determination Tool to route you to the best package product before you even begin a quote. Talk about convenient!

Here’s how it works:

  • Access the new tool directly in eCLIQ® within the new Appetite tab.
  • Enter a GL class code or description, and you’ll see our appetite for that specific class code in your state, as well as initial concerns associated with the class code.
  • If the property and liability are in our appetite, a button labeled See Package/Product Determination will appear.
  • From there, answer a few risk-assessment questions, and the tool will display the right package product for your client.
  • Click Start Quote, and you are then routed to the Advanced tab with the package product already selected for you. You can then add any other lines of business you’d like to quote, and you’ll be routed to the appropriate system to begin your quote.

We originally piloted this new tool in Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina and Ohio, and now it’s available to agents countrywide! To help us continue to improve it, please share your feedback through the pop-up survey in the lower-right corner once you complete the risk-assessment questions.

The new tool will eventually replace the Pre-Qualify Tool, offering more robust information about our appetite and a more streamlined quoting experience all in one. For detailed guidance on how to use the new tool, please see our helpful user guide.
