Rubber, meet road. Multi-factor authentication is here

Concern for the security of personal and financial data is growing in all industries – insurance included. That means we all need to take extra steps to safeguard that data if we’re going to continue doing business digitally.

To that end, we are beginning to roll out multi-factor authentication, asking you to verify your identity with a security code sent to a phone or email account, as you’ve probably done when banking online. Multi-factor authentication vastly reduces the risk of data theft compared to the use of passwords alone.

The rollout will take place in waves over the next couple of months, with all log-ins requiring multi-factor authentication by the end of March.

What to expect

When you attempt to log in to our systems for a new session, you will need to confirm your identity using both a unique password and time-limited security code. The system will send the security code to the business email or direct business phone number we have on file for you, depending on which you choose when you encounter the multi-factor authentication prompt.

When asked, you will need to enter the security code to access our systems. Note that, once you close the browser you used to log in, that session will end and the system will require you to repeat the multi-factor authentication process. To maintain an active session, keep your browser open.

If you use a comparative rater, you may need to update your credentials in that system as well.

Act now! Confirm your contact information and make sure you have your own user ID

To ensure a seamless login experience, confirm you’ve provided us a unique business email and, where possible, a unique business phone number. To review your contact information, visit the Individual ID Management page by clicking the Manage ID & Password link in the top-right corner of the Agents’ Portal home page.

If your agency shares log-in credentials, it will be nearly impossible to coordinate the retrieval of temporary security codes. Without those security codes, you won’t be able to log in to our systems.

If you currently use a shared user ID and password, you need to secure a unique user ID and password as soon as possible – reach out to your agency administrator for support.

National Advisory Councils help shape 2022 priorities

Tyler Asher is president of independent agent distribution, leading Safeco personal lines and Liberty Mutual business lines.

Independent agents are at the center of everything we do. Our success depends on your success, and feedback and collaboration are essential to how we deliver a best-in-class agent experience.

The Advisory Council process is one of the most important ways we collect that feedback and collaborate on the topics that are most pressing for our agency partners. The robust, yearlong process includes several regional and committee-level meetings where groups of dedicated agents come together with Liberty Mutual and Safeco leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities we are collectively facing. The process ultimately culminates in the National Advisory Council (NAC).

For the first time this year, both the Safeco and Liberty Mutual business lines NAC events took place in the same week – offering a holistic view of the ways we can improve the agent experience as a collaborative IA distribution organization. Both groups addressed topics spanning from product to claims, underwriting to technology. The outcome is a set of registry items put forth by each council as a roadmap for the coming year, and a commitment from us to make progress on those items.

As we look forward to 2022, the process has helped shape our priorities. Across Safeco and business lines, those priorities are focused on three key areas:

  • Increasing the speed in which we update existing products and bring new, competitve products to market
  • Continuing our technology transformation, with a focus on modernizing our quoting platforms
  • Improving the underwriting and claims experience to ensure agents and our mutual customers receive the best possible service from our team

Safeco NAC president and owner of Mountain State Agency Alliance, Kristin Garlow, offered her perspective on how the advisory council process benefits all agents:

“The advisory council offers an opportunity for open dialogue and transparent discussion. We tackle difficult topics, provide insights into changing market conditions, and bring together agent feedback from across the country to advise on a go-forward strategy. I’m encouraged by the positive change that has been brought about during my tenure and know the NAC will continue to guide us forward for years to come.”

Jerry Heming, Liberty Mutual business lines NAC president and director of commercial lines at Van Meter Insurance, reflected on our past successes and the opportunities we have together going forward:

“As a long-time member of the advisory council, it’s been a great privilege to serve in the presidency role during a time of transformation. In 2020, the feedback provided by the advisory council was imperative to Liberty Mutual’s COVID response. As we continue to navigate a market in flux, the council will remain a central force for leading business lines into the future. I look forward to seeing many of the positive changes we’ve influenced come to fruition in 2022 and beyond.”

Thank you to Kristin and Jerry for your service this year, and to each advisory council member for your dedication to a process that benefits thousands of agents appointed with Liberty Mutual and Safeco.

All agents are encouraged to participate by providing feedback and can do so by reaching out directly to a council member. Directories of Regional and National Advisory Council members are available on the Liberty Mutual Agents Portal. We appreciate your continued partnership and look forward to another year of growth and progress, together.

Stay well,

Tyler Asher

New underwriting assistant points of contact

On Oct. 11, to service your needs more effectively, we made a couple of important changes to the way we organize our team of underwriting assistants. First, please note that we’re now calling underwriting assistants “support specialists.” Second, instead of having individually-assigned support specialists for express, custom, inland marine and farm, you now have a small team of specialists who will handle questions and requests for all four underwriting segments.

Aligned by territory, these teams can help in areas where you may have reached out to an underwriting assistant in the past. Common questions and requests they might handle include status checks on open endorsements, renewals or mid-term quotes; explanations for premium changes on audits, quotes or endorsements; rush requests with urgent timeframes; and other research and problem-solving on general process issues.

For support on these types of questions and requests, contact us by phone or email so we can route your request to the right team:

  • Phone (new): 800-607-4094
  • Email (unchanged): BusinessLinesRequests@Libertymutual.com

Things just got easier! Paperless one-click option is here

We know consumers prefer digital options. So, to meet this demand and increase user satisfaction, we’ve made a change that makes it easier for your clients to enroll in our popular paperless option. Here’s how it works.

When a policyholder signs into their account, they will see a message that reads: “Good news! Your documents have gone paperless.” They can then click on the “Sounds good” button to confirm their enrollment. That’s it — just one click to opt in. Customers will still have the option to opt out and receive mailed documents if they prefer. It’s all part of our ongoing effort to deliver the best experience for your customers.

This change is currently just for policies written in eCLIQ®. We will apply it to eCLIQ® Simple™ policies soon, and will alert you to that change when it happens.
